January 2018 Gage Report

New Inspection Requirements

During the holidays, API released the Sixteenth edition of the 5B Specification for Threading, Gauging, and Inspection of Casing, Tubing, and Line Pipe Threads. The effective date for the Sixteenth Edition of the 5B Specification is July 1st. The new specification has major changes that you need to be aware of in order to conform and properly maintain your API license.

There are new mandatory attribute inspections like crest diameter, form, addendum, and tooth thickness/groove width. Examples and methods of gauging these attributes are described in Section 5. API also created new dimensions and tolerances for the majority of API licensed connections.

Gagemaker will be offering advice, tools, and information to our customers to help prepare for the new requirements. Currently, you can check out the MRP AIR Crest Diameter Gage. It is the fastest and easiest way to measure crest diameter and ovality, as well as finding your ring and plug standoff.

Be on the lookout for our new MRP 5B mobile app to help you calculate and check your crest diameter, ovality, and standoff. It will be available across Apple, Android, and Windows platforms soon.

Avoid last minute compliance liabilities, call (713-472-7360), e-mail, or visit our Contact Us Form to get a quote for the new requirements today.
