Gagemaker’s JSS® Thread Inspection System for Mud Motors is a collection of systems that will help you inspect your mud motor from end to end.  Drilling faster without stalls is critical to any drilling operation and increasing the time downhole and decreasing the trip time while maintaining consistent power is key in this industry. Ultimately, if the tool fails, then the operator has a very expensive problem.  

The demands placed on the drilling motor to achieve optimum performance require the proper fit between the rotor and the stator in the power section.  Gagemaker’s Power Section Gages ensure this fit meets these specifications.

The mud motor assembly encompasses a host of different style threads. With ACME straight threads, rotary shouldered connections and the ACME Mod, all of the threaded components require inspection of each and every critical thread element to ensure top performance.

The Rotary Shouldered Connection and ACME Mod threads are coarse tapered threads designed to withstand the rigors of drilling.

Straight ACME threads are found throughout the bearing mandrel and safety catch assemblies and require close inspection to exacting ANSI specifications in order to meet the performance properties that drilling demands.

Stator Inspection

Inspection of the stator’s elastomer minor diameter requires a gage that is sensitive enough to capture the minor diameter without deforming surface of the material.  The design of the gage takes this into consideration by minimizing gage weight and measuring force.  The gage exerts just the right amount of contact force to achieve an accurate measurement without deforming the surface of the elastomer.  By taking multiple measurements through the stator’s bore, the electronic gage’s software records and averages the readings and displays an average diameter that is then compared to the rotor to achieve the necessary mated fit.

The inspection system is a variation on our JSS® Rotary Shouldered Connection Inspection System. An MRP® crest diameter gage is substituted for our internal RSC pitch diameter gage.
