Helpful Hints:
Taking Care of Your MRP

MRP-2000

All You Need is a Little LoveHeartgage

Don’t overlook simple gage care. Caring for your MRPs will ensure that they stay at their best for the longest time. Here are a few simple things that you can do to maintain any of your MRP gages.

Basic Gage Care:
Keep all unprotected metal surfaces coated with light oil.
Avoid dropping the gage or subjecting it to any vibration or impact.
Keep the gage dry and away from any machine coolant spray.
Do not force the movement of any of the mechanical parts. The mechanics are designed to move freely.
Keep the indicator face clean.
Never oil the indicator, as the oil will attract dirt and dust.
Advanced Care:
» MRP Railsnopliersweb

Inspect MRP rails for straightness: roll them on a qualified flat surface to look for bends or hooked ends.
Do NOT use pliers when tightening the knobs on an MRP-2000. Hand-tighten only.
The rails are thin-walled mechanical tubes and using pliers causes flat-spots and indentations. This takes away from the accuracy of the gage, as the knobs will set in an existing indentation every time, instead of at the desired location. It will also bend the rails causing the gage to rock during inspection.
If you use pliers, you will quickly wear off the ridges on the knobs off. Consequently, the knobs will not sufficiently hand-tighten.
» MRP Wear Pads
Check the wear pads for excessive wear. Replace pads if there is significant wear of the pad.
A worn pad changes the location of the gage plane on a tapered connection and leads to inaccurate measurements.
» MRP Blocks

For older style blocks, be sure to use the brass tip screws included with the gage in order to prevent dents and scratches on the arms.
If your arms or rails are already damaged or worn, replace them and consider upgrading to the new style blocks.

P.Q. Machine Going to the Next Level
PQSign
Gagemaker is happy to announce that P.Q. Machine LP is all tooled up and putting their new equipment to work in their new 6,000 square foot shop in Conroe, Texas.

Working toward their goal to manufacture API rotary shouldered connections, tubing and casing connections, and various types of straight threads at their new facility, the progressive team at P.Q. Machine set out to put the right tools in place.

So when it came to thread inspection, P.Q. Machine reached out to Gagemaker for help. To inspect their large array of products, P.Q. Machine not only needed equipment, but also required in depth thread inspection knowledge.

The Gagemaker staff visited them several times to survey the situation and supply the tools and expertise to meet their mission. From optimizing a new Gagemaker MIC TRAC 3000 calibration system in their new lab to getting the JSS Solution packages for Rotary Shouldered Connections, Tubing and Casing, and ANSI threads, P.Q. Machine is on the right track.

The JSS Solution packages for each type of connection provided all the right tools to comprehensively inspect threads, so the next step was training. The P.Q. Machine team received extensive training from Gagemaker on the importance of inspecting all thread elements, proper thread inspection methods and gage setting techniques for lead gages, functional roll gages, the famous MRP and more. During their training, Eric Otten of Gagemaker made sure to drill in the importance of inspecting lead, “Lead can diagnose your machine’s performance, and just as importantly, it affects the fit of your threads.”

Now, with their newly increased workspace and expanded manufacturing capabilities, along with their comprehensive thread inspection program and company initiative to ensure customer satisfaction, Precision Quality Machine is in position to surpass even their own expectations.
